About Us

OUR HISTORY

Jimmy and Elaine Key founded Key Foundation, Inc. in 2001. Elaine was a special education teacher and area coordinator for Haralson County Special Olympics. She had a great passion, vision, and love for individuals with exceptional abilities often spending most of her free time with individuals in the community.

The first home, James Street Community Living Arrangement (CLA) was created because one of her students suddenly lost her mother and had no place to live. There were no available services offered in Haralson County. The house quickly filled and there was a need for another so Key Foundation established Ann Street CLA in the same year. As growth continued, we opened Dodson Street CLA in Buchanan in 2004.

At that time, our residents had to be transported to day programs in two surrounding counties because there were no openings in Haralson County. There was a great need for another day program in the county. So, in June 2004, we opened our day program Beech Creek Industries on Arbacoochee Road in Tallapoosa. We quickly outgrew our building there and moved to our current location on Golf Course Road in 2007 . As growth continued, we acquired the building next door and more than doubled our space. We now can accommodate many individuals. We opened a Host Home in December of 2012 and another in December of 2013. We established Bradford Community Living Arrangement in 2014 and when it opened, it was already ¾ full.

Jimmy and Elaine have both retired have turned the company over to their oldest daughter and son-in law, Deborah and Joseph Cramer.
